How Coupon Googling Can Save on College Costs

Laptop, microwave, extra long twin sheets, towels, mini-fridge, bicycle, backpack, plane tickets, a few warehouse-store sized cases of noodle cups–even those non-tuition college costs can add up quickly! Luckily for us, the internet is a virtual cornucopia of coupons, discounts, and savings.
Deal Watchers
If you have an item or category already in mind, check out PriceProtectr.com, a site that helps you track price fluctuations on a myriad of items. You can watch for deals before you buy, and if you continue to watch after you make your purchase, you can take advantage of price protection if the store you bought from offers a refund of the difference within a certain time period. You can even get email notifications about the products you’re monitoring.
If you don’t have a certain product in mind, you can peruse websites like eBay’s Daily Deal (which also has email notifications) for limited-time deals on everything from books to computers, backpacks to clothes, and beyond.

I’ve mentioned a couple of online coupon code sites before–there are a multitude of them out there in many formats - from blogs to forums and in-between.
One of the best ones I’ve found is RetailMeNot.com, which lets you search items, categories, or even stores for coupon codes and printable coupons. They even have a Firefox Add-on and IE Add-on that can notify you of available coupon codes when you visit any one of their retailers. Very handy!
The Power of Googling
Perhaps the most powerful way to find great deals? Search engines. Before you make a purchase of anything from a plane ticket to a prescription online, make sure you harness the power of Google!
To get started simply type in your item name plus the word “coupon” and click enter. Remember to try this on other search engines like Yahoo or MSN as well, because they rank their results differently. You could come up with several different coupon codes to use on one item!
You can also try typing in your item with “student discount,” “coupon code,” or “discount code” to see if you can find even better discounts!
